Recreational Voucher or Vacation Allowance

A recreational voucher, also known as a vacation allowance, is provided by some companies to their employees to subsidize recreational activities. Employees can use it to cover part of their accommodation costs with service providers in Slovakia. Before making a reservation, ensure that your employer offers this voucher and that you are eligible to use it.

You can use the recreational allowance to cover 55% of your costs, up to a maximum of €275 per calendar year. The allowance can also be split into several smaller trips, totaling up to a maximum of €500.

How to Properly Apply for a Recreational Allowance:

• The reservation must be made by the person claiming the recreational voucher.
• The deposit or the entire stay must be paid from the account/card of the person claiming the recreational voucher, which is registered with the employer.
• When making a reservation, leave a note indicating that you will be using a recreational voucher.
   

Ways of Providing the Recreational Allowance:

• The employer reimburses part of the costs - up to 55% of the receipt for the recreational stay, up to a maximum of €275.
• The employer uses platforms for electronic recreational vouchers.

A Few Tips:

• By law, the recreational voucher is provided by employers with 49 or more employees.
• The employee must have worked for the employer continuously for at least 24 months and requested the recreational allowance from the employer.
• The recreational voucher can only be used within Slovakia.
• The minimum length of stay in a recreational facility must be 2 nights.
• Verify the possibility of using the recreational voucher at the facility you plan to visit. Not every accommodation provider qualifies as a recreational facility.
• The invoice for the employer must include: the name of the employee and all participants of the stay, the price of the stay, and the stay period (at least 2 nights).
